Kirtipur Pictures

On Saturday, we went on a short day trip to Kirtipur, one of the cities in the valley near Kathmandu. It was a 30 minute cab ride and we walked back taking in the sight, sounds, and smells of the road. Kirtipur has a long, proud history. It was one of the toughest cities for King Prithvi Narayan Shah to capture on his crusade to unite Nepal 100's of years ago. Kirtipur is up on a hill with beautiful views of the surrounding mountains and a panoramic view of the valley. On our walk back to Kathmandu, we stopped at Kalimati Vegetable Market to buy some produce.

Kathmandu branch of Crate & Barrel

We only paid 75 cents for half a kilo of mushrooms, and 10 cents for half a kilo of tomatoes! It is exciting to be able to afford such fantastic selection of vegetables. We also walked down one side street that seemed to be a butcher block. They were carving goat, chickens, and fish out in the hot, sunny street with skin, feet, heads, and all gushing everywhere. It was not Rachel's favorite sight so far!

The city is drying out after monsoonal rains and we are planning
our trips outside of the valley. That's it for now. The internet is about to cut out! More picture soon! Hope everyone is well. Love Rachel & Sudhir
